Who bears the patient communication burden in a fax model
In a fax-and-phone pharmacy relationship, the clinic is the communication layer between the pharmacy and the patient. VLS calls or emails the office; the office decides what to tell the patient and when. For a small patient panel, this is a non-issue — a staff member passes the update quickly. For a high-volume program with dozens of active compounded patients, managing incoming pharmacy calls and outgoing patient updates becomes its own operational task.
If patient SMS notifications are important to your program — reducing calls asking where the shipment is, improving adherence on GLP-1 titration schedules, or managing patient expectations on a two-to-three-day compounding timeline — you would need to build that layer yourself using clinic texting tools, rather than relying on VLS to send it. Confirm directly with VLS whether any automated patient-facing outreach exists.
