The fax-and-phone model: what each step looks like
A prescriber ordering from VLS Pharmacy contacts the pharmacy directly. They send a fax using a cover sheet or prescription pad, transmit an electronic prescription through their EMR's outbound ordering module, or call for urgent or complex orders. VLS staff receive the Rx, the pharmacist reviews it for completeness and validity, and the pharmacy compounds and ships. Notifications — when the order is ready, when it ships — come by phone or email from VLS staff.
This model is familiar to any prescriber who has worked with a compounding pharmacy before the era of ordering portals. It works well for clinics whose volume fits the per-fax rhythm and who value direct pharmacist collaboration over digital self-service.
