Empower Pharmacy prescription submission flow

How the Empower Pharmacy prescription submission flow works

A prescription reaches Empower Pharmacy through LifeFile (Empower's EPCS-compliant prescriber portal), by fax to (832) 678-4419, by phone at (346) 229-5386, or through an integrated EMR. Once received, Empower's in-house pharmacists verify the SIG, prescriber state licensure, and product availability before Empower's own 503A compounding team fills and ships the prescription. Empower Pharmacy is the compounder — it does not hand the prescription to a separate partner pharmacy. All verification and fulfillment happens within Empower.

This page details how a prescription moves from prescriber authorization to Empower's compounding team, where the flow breaks, and how Fizy Health validates the prescription details before they reach any compounder.

The submission steps

From prescriber authorization to Empower's compounding team

Empower supports four submission channels. The verification and compounding steps are identical regardless of how the prescription arrives. Confirm EPCS setup and EMR integration specifics with your clinic liaison.

  1. 01

    Prescriber authorizes the order

A provider with valid state licensure for the patient's state authorizes the compounded medication for a specific patient, including the SIG (directions for use), strength, and quantity. For controlled substances, authorization must go through LifeFile's EPCS-compliant e-prescribing flow.

  2. 02

    Submit through the appropriate channel

LifeFile (portal): log in, select patient and medication, enter SIG and prescriber, submit electronically. Fax: send to (832) 678-4419. Phone: call (346) 229-5386. EMR: submit through an integrated system such as Cerbo. Non-LifeFile channels require a faxed or called-in prescription that Empower's team transcribes.

  3. 03

    Empower's pharmacists verify the prescription

Empower's in-house pharmacy team verifies the SIG completeness, prescriber state licensure, patient demographics, and product availability. Verification happens after submission, not before it. A first-time patient-prescriber pair or an unusual SIG increases the probability of a hold.

  4. 04

Controlled-substance state ID check (if applicable)

Prescriptions for controlled substances shipped to Alabama, Hawaii, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Dakota, or Wisconsin require a valid patient government-issued ID on file before Empower will fill the order.

  5. 05

    Empower compounds and dispenses

Once verified, Empower's own 503A compounding team prepares the medication and dispenses it directly to the patient. The prescription does not leave Empower for another pharmacy at any point. Tracking is issued from within Empower's own fulfillment system.

Where it breaks

  • SIG verification hold resets the clock

An incomplete or non-standard SIG that is not caught before submission triggers a hold from Empower's verification team, requiring the prescriber to correct and resubmit. The 3-business-day fulfillment window resets from the resubmission date.

  • Prescriber-state licensure mismatch

If the prescriber is not licensed in the patient's state, Empower's verification team will hold the prescription. Confirming licensure before submission — not after — avoids this delay.

  • State ID requirement for controlled substances

Clinics ordering controlled substances for patients in the 11 states with ID requirements must have the patient ID on file. Empower will not fill the order until this requirement is met.

Why the prescription submission step is where orders slow down

A compounded prescription has to satisfy Empower's verification team on three fronts: a complete and fillable SIG, a prescriber licensed in the patient's state, and available product. Because Empower's verification is a post-submission step, any failure surfaces after the prescription is in the queue — requiring clinic correction and resubmission. The 3-business-day fulfillment clock does not start until the corrected prescription clears verification, so a single SIG error can add several days to the patient's wait.

Fizy Health validates the prescription details before they reach any compounder. Cart validation checks the SIG, prescriber state licensure, and stock before checkout, so the prescription that hands off to Empower or any assigned 503A compounder is one it can fill without a hold. That moves rework out of the prescriber's day and reduces the hold-correct-resubmit loop.

FAQ

Empower Pharmacy prescription submission — common questions.

  • Channels

How do you submit a prescription to Empower Pharmacy?

Prescriptions can be submitted through LifeFile (Empower's EPCS-compliant portal at empowerpharmacy.com), by fax to (832) 678-4419, by phone at (346) 229-5386, or through an integrated EMR such as Cerbo. LifeFile is required for controlled substances (EPCS-compliant electronic prescribing).

  • Compounding

Does Empower Pharmacy fill prescriptions in-house or send them to another pharmacy?

Empower Pharmacy fills prescriptions in-house. It is a PCAB-accredited 503A compounding pharmacy. The prescription goes to Empower's own compounding team — it is not routed to a separate partner pharmacy.

  • Verification

What does Empower verify before compounding a prescription?

Empower's pharmacist team verifies the SIG completeness, prescriber state licensure, patient demographics, and product availability. Verification happens after submission. A hold requires clinic correction and resubmission, which resets the fulfillment timeline.

  • Controlled substances

Are there extra requirements for controlled substance prescriptions?

Yes. Controlled substances must be submitted through LifeFile's EPCS-compliant e-prescribing flow. Additionally, patients in Alabama, Hawaii, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Dakota, or Wisconsin must have a government-issued ID on file with Empower before the order will be filled.

  • Validation

Does Empower validate the prescription before compounding?

Empower's verification occurs after the prescription is submitted. Fizy Health runs cart validation before submission — checking SIG, prescriber state licensure, and stock — so issues are resolved before the prescription reaches any compounder.

  • Comparison

How is the Fizy Health submission flow different?

Fizy Health validates SIGs, prescriber state licensure, and stock before the prescription submits, and lets prescribers batch many patients through one cart submission. Empower Pharmacy verifies after submission and processes each prescription individually.
