Empower Pharmacy ordering workflow

The Empower Pharmacy ordering workflow, step by step

The Empower Pharmacy ordering workflow is the sequence a clinic follows to get a compounded medication to a patient: the prescriber submits through LifeFile (Empower's own EPCS-compliant portal), by fax to (832) 678-4419, by phone at (346) 229-5386, or through an integrated EMR. Empower's in-house pharmacists verify the prescription and prescriber licensure, then Empower's own 503A team compounds and ships directly to the patient. Each prescription is submitted individually — there is no multi-patient batch cart.

This page details each step in the Empower Pharmacy workflow, the points where it stalls, and how Fizy Health restructures the same flow with batching and pre-submit validation for multi-compounder clinics.

The ordering steps

How an order moves through Empower Pharmacy

Empower supports four submission channels: LifeFile portal, fax, phone, and EMR. The verification and compounding steps are the same regardless of how the prescription arrives.

  1. 01

Log in to LifeFile or select an alternate channel

A clinic user signs into LifeFile at empowerpharmacy.com and selects the patient. Alternatively, prescriptions can be faxed to (832) 678-4419, called in to (346) 229-5386, or sent through an integrated EMR. LifeFile is required for controlled substances (EPCS-compliant e-prescribing).

  2. 02

    Select the patient and medication

The user selects the patient and browses Empower's formulary — GLP-1s (semaglutide, tirzepatide), hormones, peptides, and custom compounds. Empower's formulary is available only through Empower's channels, not through external pharmacy catalogs.

  3. 03

Enter directions for use (SIG) and prescriber

The order captures the SIG, strength, quantity, and prescribing provider. The SIG must be complete and within Empower's accepted dosing range. Controlled substances in Alabama, Hawaii, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Wisconsin require a patient ID.

  4. 04

    Submit the prescription

The clinic submits through the chosen channel. Empower's pharmacist team verifies the SIG, prescriber state licensure, and product availability. A first-time patient, a new prescriber–state pairing, or an unusual SIG increases the probability of a verification hold.

  5. 05

    Empower compounds and ships

Once verified, Empower's in-house 503A team compounds the medication and ships directly to the patient. Most orders ship within 3 business days when received by 7:00 PM CST. Shipping options: 2-Day ($15), Overnight ($33), Overnight Refrigerated ($41) in most states.

Where it breaks

  • No batch cart — one prescription at a time

A clinic running a weekly GLP-1 refill day for 50 patients submits 50 separate prescriptions. The lack of a multi-patient cart is the primary workflow bottleneck at volume.

  • Verification holds restart the clock

A SIG error, an expired or mismatched prescriber license, or a product on hold triggers a verification hold and resets the 3-business-day timeline from the resubmission date.

  • Peak semaglutide delays

During high-demand periods, Empower has documented semaglutide fulfillment delays of 7–10 business days. Clinics must account for this buffer when scheduling patient titration appointments.

Where the ordering workflow loses time

Most friction in the Empower Pharmacy workflow comes from per-prescription entry and late-stage verification holds. Because each patient requires its own LifeFile entry (or a separate fax or phone call), a high-volume refill day becomes a queue of one-off submissions. If a verification hold surfaces — a non-standard SIG, an expired license, a backorder — the affected prescription has to be corrected and resubmitted, and the clock resets. Empower does not foreground a pre-submit validation step, so these issues typically surface after the prescription is in Empower's queue.

Fizy Health restructures the same flow by moving batch submission and validation earlier. Clinics build one cart across assigned 503A partners with per-vial cost visible on each line, then run cart validation — SIGs, prescriber state licensure, and stock — before payment. A single validated checkout replaces the queue of individual submissions, and issues are resolved before money moves.

Does the Empower per-prescription workflow fit — or do you need batching and pre-submit checks?

Empower Pharmacy fits if

Empower Pharmacy

A per-prescription flow to a single compounder matches your volume.

  • Your team places orders one patient at a time and that pace works for your clinic's refill volume.
  • All of your formulary comes from Empower, so one portal covers every prescription.
  • Phone support at (346) 229-5386 or email at support@empowerpharmacy.com is how you resolve issues.
Consider Fizy Health if

Fizy Health

You need one validated cart for the whole ordering session.

  • You batch many patients on refill day and want one cart and one checkout, not serial per-prescription submissions.
  • You order from more than one 503A compounder and need a single workflow across all of them.
  • You want SIGs, licensure, and stock validated before you submit and pay — not caught by a pharmacy hold.
FAQ

Empower Pharmacy ordering workflow — common questions.

  • Channels

How do you place an order with Empower Pharmacy?

Prescriptions can be submitted through LifeFile (Empower's EPCS-compliant prescriber portal), by fax to (832) 678-4419, by phone at (346) 229-5386, or through an integrated EMR such as Cerbo. LifeFile is required for controlled substances.

  • Batch

Can a clinic batch multiple patients in one submission?

No. Empower Pharmacy requires a separate prescription submission for each patient, regardless of the channel used. There is no multi-patient batch cart. Fizy Health uses one clinic cart so a whole refill session can be submitted and checked out at once.

  • Compounding

Does Empower Pharmacy compound the medications in-house?

Yes. Empower Pharmacy is a PCAB-accredited 503A compounding pharmacy. All 503A patient-specific prescriptions are compounded by Empower's own team in their own facility — there is no routing to external pharmacies.

  • Timeline

How long does Empower Pharmacy take to process an order?

Most orders ship within 3 business days when received by 7:00 PM CST. During high-demand windows for GLP-1 medications such as semaglutide, Empower has communicated delays of 7–10 business days.

  • Validation

Does Empower validate the prescription before compounding?

Empower's pharmacist team verifies the SIG, prescriber state licensure, and product availability after the prescription is submitted. Fizy Health validates before submission so issues are caught before you pay, not after the prescription enters the compounding queue.

  • Comparison

How is the Fizy Health workflow different?

Fizy Health is a multi-compounder ordering platform. It lets clinics build one cart across assigned 503A pharmacies, validates SIGs and licensure before submission, shows per-vial pass-through cost before checkout, and submits everything in one session — replacing the per-prescription queue that Empower's workflow requires.
